Khaled Hosseini is a world-renowned bestselling author from Afghanistan. After the invasion of the Soviet Army, he and his family were granted political asylum in the United States, where he earned a medical degree. In March 2001, while practicing medicine, Hosseini began writing his first novel, The Kite Runner (2003). He became immediately a global success, and his books have been published in over seventy countries. After being appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency, Hosseini established The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit which provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
