Elizabeth Jane Howard was a British novelist, author of the bestselling series The Cazalet Chronicles. Before starting her career as a writer in 1947, she worked briefly as an actress and model. Her first novel, The Beautiful Visit (1950), won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize the following year for best novel by a writer under 30. The Cazalet Chronicles, published between 1990 and 1995 and consisting of four volumes detailing the saga of the Cazalet family during the war years, sold millions of copies worldwide. A fifth book, All Change, was published in 2013 and was her final novel.
